PIP Semarang Introduces Advanced DP and INS Simulator Training for Maritime Cadets

ree

The Indonesian maritime education sector has reached another milestone as Politeknik Ilmu Pelayaran (PIP) Semarang officially launched a new Dynamic Positioning (DP) and Integrated Navigation System (INS) simulator training facility. This initiative enhances Indonesia’s commitment to producing well-trained, globally competitive maritime professionals.

The new simulator was installed at PIP Semarang’s Center of Excellence and was developed by Kongsberg Maritime, a global leader in simulation and vessel control technologies. The system supports comprehensive DP training and complies with International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards, including STCW and the Nautical Institute’s DP training scheme.

The training program is designed to equip cadets and maritime officers with the skills to operate vessels equipped with sophisticated navigation and positioning systems. Through realistic simulation scenarios, users can practice ship handling, maneuvering, dynamic positioning operations, and emergency responses in a controlled environment. The system includes an advanced instructor station, allowing trainers to configure customized exercises and monitor cadet performance in real time.

This investment in simulator-based training reflects Indonesia’s vision to modernize its maritime education infrastructure, addressing both domestic needs and global standards in maritime operations. With the archipelagic nature of Indonesia and its growing role in international shipping, advanced simulation plays a vital role in improving safety, operational competence, and workforce readiness.

The project is a result of collaboration between PIP Semarang, Kongsberg Maritime, and local authorities, and is expected to benefit thousands of maritime students over the coming years.
